Remember when you would trade in your old car for a new one every two or three years?
Remember when they said don't repair your vehicle if it isn't worth it anymore?
Remember that new car smell?
The only new car smell I will get is one of those things you hang from your rearview mirror.Last week my check engine light came on.
I was hoping for the best because the last time that happened it was because my gas cap was loose.
No such luck this time.
My rear catalytic converter was shot and the pipes that held it were rusted out and disintegrated when they removed them.
On top of that, I had two bald tires and a bunch of other things I had neglected.
Do you know how much mechanics make?
I definitely chose the wrong career path.
I looked up the average new car price and it is $48,000. Are you kidding me?
I took a Lyft home while I awaited the bad news.
My Lyft driver told me she is 60 years old and works five part-time jobs.
She said young people are using ride shares instead of driving.
Ummm my 1.5-mile trip cost $12. NOPE!!!
When I got home I saw that I made $30 on Facebook Marketplace and when I got out my handy calculator I realized I only have to do that 103 more times to recoup my losses.
I guess I will be driving my car until it takes its last gasp and that made me wonder.
Will people be driving their cars until they just won't go anymore and will they then be abandoned on the side of the road leaving us with a whole new litter problem?
Have a great day and don't forget to kick those tires and get your oil changed.
I would love for you to check out my Etsy shop where I sell vintage and antique finds along with digital downloads of beautiful antique artwork.

Cars Ugh!!!! It is one of those evils we have to have in society. When they get us from Point A to Point B they are great the minute they need work it is all over. Car prices and repair prices are sooooo high. Sorry you are dealing with that. I guess you have to think about how much insurance costs and the fact the car is old and will need more work compared to taking an uber when you need it. Delivery services now are higher but a lot of people think it is cheaper to just uber and have things delivered. So I guess you have to see which way is best for you. Have a good weekend. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope it all works out for the best for you. Ironically, dollars flew out my window this week - oil change, tire rotation, wiper change, dog grooming, groceries, etc. Need to fill my tank but the price is still near $5.00 a gallon. I don't go out much so it does last awhile but the initial output is daunting. I told my daughter I don't want to be an adult anymore!
ReplyDeleteI drive an older suburban and despite the gas mileage it is cheaper to keep her!!! I empathize with your situation.
ReplyDeleteIt really is always something that needs taken care of or updated. New cars haven't gotten so expensive even in the past couple of years. Hope you get yours in good working order. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry...cars are so expensive today. It's really out of control. I hope yours is repaired quickly and fingers crossed for all those sales!!
