Don't worry this won't become a regular feature as I so rarely go into a shoe store it might be a once-every-ten-year feature.
You laugh, but you have never seen my ten-year-old decrepit sneakers.
This pair probably looks better than mine
Other than the recent pandemic, there is a reason I don't often go into shoe stores. I am the worst shoe buyer ever.
People who have shopped for shoes with me in the past have banned me from even mentioning shoe shopping to them.
I noticed that when I would go into a shoe store the salespeople would all suddenly disappear.
In warm weather, I can wear my Ecco sandals to walk in. I love them and they last forever.
I think all of the velcro straps, which can be adjusted to fit just right, make them perfect for me.
It isn't the style of shoes that I am so picky about. It is the comfort.
Of course, we know I have been banned from wearing heels since my late thirties. That is when I put on a pair in the shoe store, fell over, and almost killed a young child. (we won't say whose young child that was)
After listening to me talk about all of the sneakers I had purchased online, only to return them, my family gave me a gift certificate to REI for a new pair.
What is REI I asked?
Well first of all it is literally three minutes from my apartment and I have passed it numerous times.
How could I have missed it they nicely asked?
Well, because I am a conscientious driver who keeps her eyes on the road at all times. Bwahaha.
After some eye-rolling from my grandchildren, I was assured that the people who worked there were really nice and patient.
Two weeks later I screwed up my courage and drove the three minutes there. My sister said she would pray for the salesperson who waited on me. Very funny.
It actually took two salespeople and two hours, but I did walk out with a pair of fancy new On Cloudflyer4 sneakers.
These can also be purchased online at Fleet Feet.
I normally wear a size 7 shoe but took a size 8 in these.
While I was on a shoe roll I decided to purchase a new pair of Minnetonka moccasins.
Love my Minnetonka shoes.
They recommend that you go down on size and I do because they stretch and mold themselves around your feet as you wear them.
Well, now that you have shoe shopped with me I'm sure you can't imagine what all of the fuss was about.
The walking shoes look great! I have worn Montrails for years but Columbia bought the brand and changed them. Now I need to try on some other brands. I guess I'll have a shock at prices! I love REI though!
ReplyDeleteREI is great. I am sure you are going to get a lot of use out of the new shoes. Have a nice Friday and wonderful weekend. Get out there and test out those new shoes! Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Laura. I hate buying shoes. If I find a pair I like and they are comfy, I try to buy them in many colors. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I hate buying shoes, too. Once I find a pair I like, I buy two of them and wear them until they literally fall apart!!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed: your 10 yr old sneakers look like they could use a good wash but other than that, there is awfully good condition. I can't wear heels at all either; my shoe/sandal of choice are Naots --- the most comfortable! Gotta take care of our feet!
ReplyDeleteYour post made me laugh, but I have to admit that I have a shoe fetish, and love shoe-shopping! I just bought my first pair of On sneakers - the Couldrunner Wide. Love them - so soft and cushiony!
