Simple Pleasures # 48
Slow down, slow down, slow down!!
I don't know how many times I have to tell myself this and how difficult it can be.
I also know that I have too much in my small apartment and I am tired of digging through drawers, closets, and chests to find things.
It was all brought back to me this morning when I woke up with an aching back and once again couldn't find my back brace.
So what can we do to make our lives simpler and how will that help our overall well-being?
A few ideas:
1) Slow down your breathing. When life seems overwhelming and too filled up with complicated problems focus on one thing at a time and one breath at a time.
2) Kick all of that clutter right out of your life. I mean throw it out, set it out on the curb, or drop it off at the thrift store. You don't have to do it all at once. Take one drawer at a time.
3) Consolidate your errands. We know how expensive gas is so this is a good time to get in the habit of planning your trips and learning to make do in the meantime. Think about the relaxing things you can do instead of making that extra trip.
4) Take a walk. I love taking a walk first thing in the morning before I really get my day going. I always feel better when I do and it's a good time to plan out the day. Dusk is also a great time to take a walk. There is just something so special about the light at that time of day.
5) Learn to say no. This is a biggy. When you learn that it is okay to say no you will find that you have much less stress in your life and therefore life becomes simpler.
That salad look so yummy. Have a great Friday and weekend. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteI'm working on those things you mentioned.. deep breathing more, trying to rid myself of clutter little by little, running all errands at once (which I've done for years, since I always lived in the country and HAD to do that).....trying to give myself more time to just sit and read and have my cup of tea, more than once a day! That salad looks awesome so I saved the recipe, and want to get the brand of pasta she recommends. When I make a pasta salad (gluten free) it's good the first day, but if I have leftovers, the 2nd day is not good as the pasta gets hard and chewy! Yuk. Maybe this type will be better.. have never tried it. Have a good weekend! Marilyn
ReplyDeleteYes, this is an ongoing battle for me, as well. It's always the goal...
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Laura. My problem is saying no. Although my home isn't cluttered, I do have too much stuff crammed into closets, the basement, etc. I really do need to purge. You're so right. When I do get rid of significant amounts of stuff, I do feel lighter.
