Simple Pleasures #47
"The power of hope upon human exertion
and happiness is wonderful."
Abraham Lincoln
Hope can be a difficult thing to find in trying times.
We are living in a complicated world.
It is a world where we are faced with personal as well as global uncertainties.
There are many days when I have to dig very deep to find hope, but I know that for me hope is a source of strength.
Hope sustains me when I feel that things around me are falling apart.
Meditation and prayer give me the strength to wrap myself in a cloak of hope, to awake to the power of hope that is within me always.
"Hope is being able to see that there is light
despite all of the darkness."
Desmond Tutu
Even those who are suffering the most unimaginable pain and suffering can find hope.
It seems to arise from the depths of the darkness and bring them back up into the light.
Even on the days that I struggle the most, I remind myself of the struggles of others.
The future may look frightening, but hope is like the beautiful wildflowers that grow along the edge of a dark woods.
Their beauty will sustain us through the darkness.
The beauty will still be there when we emerge on the other side.

What I'm Reading And Other Summer Reads
I currently have my head buried in this fabulous book.
It's a southern coming of age novel.
Summertime Recipe
Whew!!!
I don't know about you, but the last thing I want to do on a hot summer day is turn on my oven.
I remember eating ham salad, and loving it, when I was growing up.
Not sure if it's just a southern thing, but you definitely don't have to be southern to love it.
This southern ham salad recipe is quick and easy and perfect for a summer meal.
I love the recipe as is, but feel free to add a little zing with some mustard or horseradish sauce.

Good Morning Laura. I am not sure what any of us would do without Hope in our lives. Especially in the world we live. The ham salad looks so good and the reads look great too. Happy Friday have a good weekend. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteThese is a good message when we are constantly hit with all the things going wrong in the world. We spent the morning at the park and that took us away from our problems! Enjoy your day! I love those cute lights!
ReplyDeleteTo help me, I just don't watch the news at all. I know it's kind of sticking my head in the sand, but I'm much better off, and have much for HOPE for this country, if I don't know what's going on (well I do try to keep up to date on a few things). I agree, without hope, and nothing to look forward to, life can be kind of bleak. Take care... Marilyn
ReplyDeleteLove your message of hope today, Laura, as we face so much uncertainity. It's the one thing that keeps me going and gives me the strength to get back up even during the difficult times. I can't wait to dive into all your links on slow and cozy living today. Big hugs and happy weekend, CoCo
ReplyDeleteIt's been a really, really rough week around here. I could use a little hope...thanks for the message. xo
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration, Laura. With all the bad news of late, it's hard to be hopeful sometimes, but we must.
