Do you remember that old song
School days, school days dear old golden rule days
Reading, and writing, and arithmetic...
I am definitely not into arithmetic these days and the only writing I do is for this blog, but I am doing a lot more reading.
I was always a prolific reader. I learned to read at age six and that is when I started to read everything.
At breakfast, I would read the back of the cereal box if that was all that was available.
I remember getting three Nancy Drew books for Christmas and having them read by my birthday, which was two days later.
That love of reading carried on into my adult years and I was never without a book to read.
Then the pandemic hit and for some reason, I stopped reading. It was as if a switch was turned off and that switch was my love of reading.
I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I think all of the stress affected my concentration.
I am now happy to say that I have started reading again.
These all seem like wonderful winter reads. Thanks for sharing. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteLike you I started reading at a very young age and spent many, many hours at the library. When my sweet husband passed away 3+ years ago I stopped reading. I believe the stress affected my ability to concentrate. I did manage to read one book but I did not enjoy it. I spent 2021 collecting books recommended by many people in my life. I still find it difficult to read but I can tell I'm almost ready. The lack of concentration affected my love of my hobbies, as well. Thankfully that started returning just before the pandemic hit and now I'm back in the swing of all the things I enjoy and love. I'm hoping my love of reading returns very, very soon. Enjoy every published word and page!
ReplyDeleteI remember that song well. Did you enjoy Daughters of Erietown? I loved it! I also enjoyed All The Ways We Said Goodbye. Have a great week, Laura, and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteYup, I do remember the song, and loved reading Nancy Drew books. I always enjoy Rosamund Pilcher books. The cover of The Shop On Royal Street appeals to me, even though I have no idea what it's about. I just read The Foun Winds by Kristin Hannah, and loved it. I'm currently reading The Rose Code by Kate Quinn for a book club, but I'm finding it a bit dull.
