There are so many wonderful tips on how to create a gallery wall.
Everyone seems to have their own idea on the best way to do it.
Creating My Gallery Wall
It must be fall because my YouTube fire is crackling away on the TV.
I am probably different than most people in how I create a gallery wall because I visualize it in my mind rather than mapping it out beforehand.
I chose the pieces that I wanted to display here and then got to work. I always start with the largest pieces and work my way out.
Although I don't map it out first I am a stickler about measuring and always measure twice before hanging.
Once I had the three large prints hung it was just a matter of adding the other pieces around them.
Don't be afraid to experiment and don't be afraid to switch out pieces.
When Katy gifted me with this wonderful watercolor she painted last year of my grandparents' home and florist I immediately switched out another piece I had hanging there.
Other Style Gallery Walls
Gallery walls work in any style decor, and although my wall is fairly symmetrical you can hang your objects in any way that pleases you.
For a more modern look, you might want to layer pictures on shelves hanging on the wall.
Using different styles of prints and frames will create a wonderful eclectic boho look.
Gallery walls are perfect in farmhouse decor. As you can see, you don't have to just use prints. Here, a basket of flowers and layered empty frames create a wonderful effect.
Using all of your vertical space draws the eye upward and creates the illusion of a taller wall.
Ok first of all your daughter Katy is very talented. Love her beautiful pic gifted to you of your grandparents home. Wowsie beautiful. You have such vision and I love your gallery wall. What a great way to change out things too when you feel a little change is needed. Have a great week Laura xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteLove your gallery wall! I have a small home so most of my walls are used up with pictures, shelves, do dads, hangings, photo collages, etc. When I have no more surfaces to decorate or put things on, I go to the walls! Marilyn

ReplyDeleteYour gallery wall is gorgeous and Katy is a talented woman! Nothing like a good youtube fire. I have played that in my classroom before while the kids were working. They loved it.
ReplyDeleteGreat gallery display. There must be a knack to it because mine always look a mess. well done.
ReplyDeleteI love gallery walls! It's hard to sometimes get them just right though without it simply looking like a mishmash of all kinds of art. Your Katy sure is talented!
ReplyDeleteI tend to over think gallery walls and end up with the bare minimum just because I'm too scared of making a hole in the wrong place and having to patch and start again. It's silly I know, but I think I'll try your trick of working outwards from a larger piece. It makes more sense.
ReplyDeleteWonderful watercolour and I love your maximalist look!
ReplyDeleteHow special Katy's water color is! Those are things to treasure. I'm about to create a new gallery wall in the bedroom. I usually make templates and hang them on the wall - I'm not that sure of myself, so I have to map it out on the wall first.
