When I first watched the movie The Holiday I fell in love. Not in the usual sense, but in the I fell in love with the English cottage sense.
I knew I really liked English cottage style, but that particular English cottage made me swoon.
Yes, I know the rooms were created on a Hollywood sound stage, but that didn't make them any less swoon-worthy.
The cottage is a composite of all of the slightly wonky English cottages that we have all loved over time. Faded chintzes, wood beams, and a slightly shabby kitchen all add to the irresistible charm.
The Kitchen
The kitchen at Rosehill Cottage oozes English country charm with its gas hob and open shelves filled with blue and white ceramics.
Shaker-style kitchen cupboards (similar) are painted in a perfect pale blue Wedgewood shade (similar).
Who wouldn't want to cozy up in this living room full of mismatched chintz (similar) and comfy overstuffed chairs?
Of course, there is the inevitable blue velvet ottoman (similar), an antique drum is used as a table and the sofa is covered in a pretty subdued pink stripe (similar).
Every English cottage needs a reading nook. The nook at Rosehill Cottage has bookshelves filled with books and a comfortable armchair (similar) for a cold winter day.
The bedroom includes a roaring fire and gorgeous mismatched furniture.
I have been ready to move in since the first time I saw it. If only it actually existed.
