Simple Pleasures #5.
I have to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with fall.
I love the nearly perfect temperatures, the beautiful changing leaves, fresh crisp apples, pumpkins, and the holidays.
I hate that it is the absolute worst season for my allergies and that it is followed by the dreaded season of winter. I guess the loves outweigh the hates.
This adorable witch with her little ghost was tucked away in a drawer, and when I came across it while looking for something else I decided to go ahead and put it out.
It always makes me smile even though the witch has lost her pointy nose over the years. Hey, none of us are perfect.
I haven't looked for any more of my fall decor, but I really don't have that much anymore. I guess I will start looking for it next week.
Simple Inspiration
This week I talked about gratitude, and instead of focusing on the negative aspects of fall I am going to be grateful for the things I love about it. How fortunate we are to have a chance to renew ourselves.
Lovely Reads I Found This Week
If you are looking for some new fall decor ideas for your front porch and door you will want to check out these favorite fall finds.
It has been a couple of years since I made a dried orange garland, but I think I will make one again this year. It adds a wonderful citrus smell to your home.
This apple cookie and cream cheese frosting recipe looks so yummy. Because it isn't gluten-free I am adding it here. However, you could easily make it gluten-free by switching out the flour.

This GF recipe had me at pumpkin bread, which by the way is my favorite, but the streusel topping sealed the deal.

What I'm Watching
I'm currently watching season 2 of My Life Is Murder on Acorn TV, which stars Lucy Lawless. You probably remember her from Xena; Warrior Princess and Parks and Recreation, but did you know she is actually Australian and this is a great New Zealand series.
Guess what premiered Yesterday on Britbox. It's season 11 of Vera. I am so excited.

Nice post Laura. I too love Fall in ways, and don't love Fall in other ways. I've always LOVED the colors of Fall, even though I'm not an orange/yellow/brown type person! But just for Fall, I love those warm colors! I don't like that is the prerequisite to snow and cold of winter around here..... mostly too much snow.. and then it means Christmas is right around the corner, and anymore, as I get older, Christmas has lost its meaning to me and it just stresses me out because I feel like I have to pretend it's all fun and I put out my decorations, etc. but really would rather just NOT. But I too will count my blessings and try to appreciate the positive things of each day as Fall comes. I know one night soon we will have freezing temps which will kill all of my pretty flowers too, which is always sad. Take care and have a good weekend! Marilyn
ReplyDeleteI guess losing your nose, if you're a witch, isn't the end of the world. I don't think I've ever eaten pumpkin bread.

Pumpkin bread is one of my favorites. Love your sweet witch which reminded me that I have a witch someplace! Have a great holiday weekend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI'm a summer girl, through and through. Fall is a hard one for me, because it's the gateway to winter...I hate winter. I do like the fall decor though! The colors are the best.
ReplyDeleteI love fallL! I got out 2 bins yesteeday and my 6 year grandduaghter helped me put some decor out. Every year I pare down and maybe add a little with 'updated' colors. My little cutie is always game for a few of my pass on decorations. We love pumpkin bread and cranberry too.
ReplyDeleteI would love fall more if it didn't mean the end of summer. I do love so many things about it, that you've named, but it does mean winter is coming. Feh! I actually think my front porch looks its very best in fall, so at least there's that!
ReplyDeleteI love fall and the colder months. I love cooking during these seasons. I love the baking.
