Terry John Woods, design stylist and author of design books discovered this Berwick, Maine cottage at a perfect time in his life. Woods found himself inspired by the colors of the ocean and decided to take up painting.
The house was drab and dark, but Woods used his design magic to create a light and airy space.
The owner wanted the spaces to flow from room to room and chose to whitewash all of the walls with Behr Swiss Coffee paint.
The lightness of the walls is carried over to the furniture, which consists of white slipcovers, a vintage coffee table, a primitive cabinet, a simple jute rug, a vintage brass shell floor lamp, and a wonderful collection of ironstone pitchers.
I love the subtle touch of color on the interior of the cabinet, which reflects the blue of the sea and sky.

On the other side of the living room, a slipcovered chair is a perfect spot to sit and read.
All I could think of when I saw this fabulous collection of antique ironstone plates was, be still my heart. It's pushing me to look around for a way to display some of my collection, which is currently stacked on the bottom shelf of a table.
The painting leaning on the shelf is the owner's artwork, which is all he displays in the house.
The pine floors have been refinished and glossed to reflect the incoming light.

Kitchen
Terry continued the white theme into the kitchen, where, as in the other rooms, the windows have been left uncovered to allow maximum light to enter the cottage.
A glass-fronted built-in cabinet is filled with vintage ironstone dishes and porcelain knobs adorn the cabinets.

Dining Room
The dining room continues the theme, which flows seamlessly from room to room.
A beautiful brown transferware pitcher takes center stage on a dining table covered with a simple white tablecloth and surrounded by matching chairs.
