If you have been with me for any amount of time you know that I love cottage decor, and if you are a new reader here are more of my cottage posts.
I love seeing new ideas for cottage-style decor, and especially love seeing living room ideas as that is where we spend much of our time.
Cottage and cozy go hand in hand when decorating. If it isn't cozy it isn't cottage.
When you read about cottage decor much of the time it is all about decorating around the wonderful architectural features of a cottage, but let's face it, we don't all live in an actual cottage. Don't let that discourage you.
As you can see from the photo above, my apartment has literally no architectural features, but that hasn't stopped me from giving it a cozy English cottage feel.
Natural Materials And Textures
Rustic furnishings in natural warm hues lend a rustic charm to cottage decor.
A sisal or seagrass rug, handcrafted furniture made from timber, or cane and rattan, and seating upholstered in natural fabrics such as wool, cotton, and linen all add to the look.

An Uplifting Color Scheme
I love the soft shades of blue for a cottage.
Fabric designer Vanessa Arbuthnott explains how blue and yellow make a great pairing for cottage living rooms.
"Lemon and soft smoke blue complement each other so perfectly. The tone of each of these colors is gentle which draws you into a room. This shade of yellow (above), which I call Hay, is so fresh, making you feel happy, full of hope and sunshine. On the other hand, blue is often seen as peaceful and secure."

A Cozy Window Seat
Imagine yourself curled up on a cozy window seat, tea in hand, and a book lying in your lap ready for a peaceful afternoon.
A window shade can add privacy without interfering with the space. I would add a thick cushion for comfort.

Add A Cheerful Color Pop
Neutral colors can appear to make a small cottage space larger, but don't be afraid to add pops of color. Florals are especially popular in cottage spaces,

Curtains
Don't overlook curtains in your cottage living room.
Curtains add privacy, control light, and add insulation. Both florals and plaids are good choices for a cottage living room.

Love those cottage curtains and the room with the book library shelves. I love cottage style for the mere reason it is cozy and not fussy in comfort. Have a great start to the new week. xoxo

Oh...those curtains are dreamy. I believe they're Kate Forman fabric from London. Of course they'd fit right in with your dreamy cottage decor!
ReplyDeleteCottage style, to me, says "Welcome!" I love your wall of books - there is nothing cozier than a library wall!
