September blew in this morning on the remnants of Harvey. It reminded me of why I love the month of September, and why I would love for September to stay awhile.
September sneaks in with subtle changes. The leaves begin to display their pretty colors.
The light in the sky mellows as it peaks between the trees.
Summer flowers are replaced with the wildflowers of Autumn in shades of purple
and yellow.
And cooler days bring paths that beckon to me for morning walks.
Rainy windy days bring out my nesting instincts. I begin to feel the tug towards getting my home ready for the cold days that I know will come.
So I say...
Stay for just a while
Stay and let me look at you
It's been so long, I hardly knew you
Standing in the door
Stay with me a while
I only wanna talk to you
We've traveled halfway 'round the world
To find ourselves again
September morn

Beautiful post! We haven't much of a fall here in OK in recent years. I'm hoping that changes.

It looks like we will definitely have an early fall this year. I am loving the 70 degree temps that are forecast for this week.
DeleteI've been noticing too that 'September sneaks in with subtle changes'. The evenings are a little bit cooler and some leaves are starting to turn on a few trees. The berries are heavy bunches of fullness bending tree boughs to the ground. I like when it shifts slowly, it lets us wrap our minds around days growing shorter and nights getting longer.
ReplyDeleteHere's wishing you a pleasant weekend and a lovely month ahead...

I hope you have a lovely September too, Brenda.
DeleteLike you, I feel the need to 'nest' when the cool weather starts moving in. Beautiful post, Laura!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debbie. I love to hear that others fluff their nests too in the months of Autumn.
DeleteLove your post and the little poem at the end.... I too cherish September and October.. my favorite months I think..... and the little signs are already starting. I was telling hubby how my marigolds, though they've all summer in this horrible heat.. are starting to look dry and wilting.. I think they know it's time to slowly roll up the rugs and dig in for the winter! Amazing how plants know better than we do when the time is right to be done with their summer show! I still water faithfully every day, but I'm tiring of it and ready to be done with gardening... except I used to love to bring in fall leaves from the trees on our property, to decorate with...love all the colors.. but here in town, we have no trees with fall color.. and none really around our town. It's summer.. and then all of a sudden, everything drops off the trees and it's winter. No inbetween here, unless I go up into the mountains to the west of us.. which I will definitely do come October! Have a nice weekend. Marilyn
ReplyDeleteI had come to dread fall in recent years, but I have decided to try and embrace each season like I did when I was younger, Marilyn. I know that January and February will be hard for me, but I have light to hopefully get me through those winter months.
DeleteHi Laura. Nice post. I love September, especially for cooler temps. I'm not a hot weather girl. Hope you have a nice weekend. Susan
ReplyDeleteI think September is going to be a wonderful transition month this year. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Susan.
DeleteLovely post Laura and a great outlook on life!
