There are many treatments for depression and you should always consult a professional if your depressed mood lasts longer than two weeks, if you have thoughts of suicide or harming yourself, or if your depression is not something that you can put into concrete terms and feel you can solve yourself.

I have dealt with mild depression before that stemmed from major anxiety. So I take anti-depressants every day and have been taking them since 1997! Mine is clinical not caused by a certain trauma or life circumstance. It's believed to be a seratonin imbalance. I tried stopping them once and then fell hard again. So, now I stay on them. I liked the 3rd quote you posted. That resonated with me to make me feel better.

DeleteI've been on antidepressants since probably 1983. They didn't recognize it, but I was very depressed as a young child. The difference with me on antidepressants is night and day. I say if you can fix things yourself, then do. But if you can't, don't just suffer.
